McARTHUR'S MARITAL MISHAP
■*• ■■• " •• ' ■'■-'.•■.■•" \ (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) THOUGH it was only last July that William Alexander MoArthur 1 married Eva May Renwick, of Dunsa'ndel,*. at the registrar's office m Hamilton, their venture m double harness was not ordained to be of a lasting nature. All went well for a time, said the husband, at their* home at Tuhoi, near Taupo, but Eva, who is eighteen years his Junior, would seem to have had a certain taste for dancing. It appears that during the Christmas season the young wife attended a dance. . Among those present was a young half-caste, Robert Ngapu, who was employed on the same job as Eva's husband. That there was a mutual attraction between the two was conclusively proved by others who attended the function, for Ngapu sipped the honey of those ruby tips and was seen m the act of so doing. Subsequently, Eva made a written admission of 'her misconduot with Ngapu. It ran, to quote a portion of the note: "Both Ngapu and I are to blame for this. It Is quite true wej were very t«appy until Mr. Ngapu came . . . and then things were very different. "But now, when I want things to be like pjd times,'! oan't hay« everything my own way." Then, m conclusion, there is a brief touch of pathos: "I have broken Mr. McArthur's heart, but mine is. heavy, too." • Ngapu, who had at first made a denial of his intimacy with Eva, decided later not to carry on with his defence, r The ..story^ having been related to Judge McGregor, his honor saw fit to give McArthur his freedom after three months had elapsed.
