CANON TAYLOR'S RECOVERY

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Wellington Representative.) 'THE profound stir created throughout New Zealand when the arrest 1 of Canon Feilden Taylor was announced on the afternoon of May 16 was given an added stimulus when, a week later, he was found at his mission house m Taranaki Street, Wellington, lying unconscious* with a broken thigh. . On May 23 he was called upon to answer a series of extremely grave charges m connection with alleged offences against a number of males, . . but the minutes passed and the packed courthouse was echoing the whispered conjectures as to why the accused minister had not arrived. A few minutes after eleven o'clock a doctor arrived with the news that Canon Taylor would be unable to attend any proceedings for many weeks. Since that day he has spent many hours of physical anguish m a ward of the Wellington public hospital. The time has how come when he will be able to hear the evidence which the police will bring before a magistrate. A special fixture has been arranged for Thursday next, July 19. Interest has by no means waned m the affairs* of Canon Taylor, • - and it was to be expected that a man who had built for himself such an edifice of goodwill should be the focus of comment for many weeks. Time and again within the past few weeks the matter has been brought before Magistrate Page, but the physical condition of Canon Taylor rendered, impossible any expedition of the proceedings. A complete report of the magisterial hearing will be given- m the issue of "N.Z. Truth," following the court fixture m Wellington next week. .
