Mayoral Asparagus
WHEN Tommy Jordan laughs, he shakes, which is, a good sign, because he laughs best who shakes along with it. . ■ . Whether or not a man's walk is an index to his character, it is not difficult to; pick Tommy's walk. , . VpCt is a sort of happy saunter, swagger, promenade, strut and very-press-\! ing-business-up-the- street walk all m one. ■An important man, you will say. ' •' Indeed, he is the mayor of Masterton —and greatly popular with it. ... There are few weighty problems to trouble the City Fathers of easygoing Masterton, but Tommy handles 'the reins capably and well. He Is very jealous for the welfare of the borough under his management. When he does a good thing — and he has done many — he is very pleased with himself. But what does that matter, so long as it is a good thing? A solicitor and a former schoolmaster, he has a sense of justice and domiciles himself m the heaviest-rated portion of the borough. At every council meeting Tommy unostentatiously treats the councillors to a pleasant little supper at hia own expense and asparagus rolls make their regular appearance. It is a thought that is appreciated.
