In the words of the song, he wants to be happy, but he can't be happy until he makes you happy, too. In fact, Doug, sometimes takes on such a mighty lot that he has difficulty m getting through it all. In this he almost approximates Atlas m trying to carry the world'of Masterton on his shoulders. Doug.'s efforts with the Commercial Travellers' Association for the purpose of raising funds during the war have been followed with other activities for the welfare of the community. He has. many interests. Any progressive movement m Masterton is sure to have him as one of its willing workers. His interest m education finds him as chairman of the Parents-Associat-ion of . the Wairarapa High School, while he is also chairman of the Masterton -Competitions Society —whose last festival was a record —a . prominent member of the Rotary Club and a member of the management commit? tee ot the Wairarapa Rugby Union. The recent exhibition m Masterton of Wairarapa industrial., manufactures, a.n innovation which proved a pronounced . success, found him at the [head of affairs.
