Tliey Worked Out In Nelson (From "N.Z. Truth's" Nelson Rep.) Before last Saturday's football m Nelson the position with the senior teams was such that if ; Waimea, which shared with Rival bottom place m the competition, beat Pirates, the leading team, and Old Boys drew with Nelson, then Pirates, Nelson and Old Boys would be even for the championship after the second and final round. TN ninety-nine cases out of a hundred •*■ the "if" would not have worked out, but m this instance it did. Waimea beat Pirates 6-3 and Nelson and Old Boys drew 17 all, thus leaving all three teams still m the hunt. The Nelson — Old Boys match at Trafalgar Park provided a game of thrills and a type of Rugby seldom seen m Nelson. A splendid try by Frank Snodgrass and another by Fowler, converted by, James, put Old Boys 8 points up. An Old Boys infringement just on time left Reed with a penalty kick to get after the bell had gone. He sent it over the dead centre of the bar and a joyful crowd hailed the result which left the scores 17 all. x After their poor showing Waimea's defeat of Pirates, who previously seemed certain winners of the championship, came as a great surprise. Howover, the result more than the play made the game interesting for there was little science on either side. , Waimea's points Oonsisted of a penalty goal and, a try both by Sutton, who was again the outstanding forward m the game. Bowers, the Pirate fullback, landed a penalty- kick for his team. This was their only score.' Papps (Pirate five-eighth's) was the best back on the field and Rogers, fullback for Waimea, partly wiped out his last week's poor exhibition.
