TWO-YEAR-OLDS
First Wrack's Display Was Impressive (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) Though Koro Peter won the two-year-old Challenge Stakes, the honors were with First Wrack. UNDER the conditions it was a better race than many anticipated. It was only Koro Peter's sturdy build that landed him first past the post. Standing about fifteen hands and carrying condition like a three-year-old, he presented a contrast to his lightly- conditioned rival. Then again, Don Warren was a hefty weight for First Wrack to drag around through the mud and slush. Giving Koro Peter a big lead when she failed to ' hit the trail correctly, First Wrack did well to head him off a couple of furlongs from home, even though she failed m the run to' the post. . Koro Peter put m a' skip or two, but did not lose much ground. Though his style was fairly solid, it could not be compared with that of First Wrack, .for her brilliancy m reducing a big gap and carrying on under a heartrbreaking effort stamped her as one of* the gamest that has looked through a bridle. With experience* she should turn out a champion. * . > Should these two meet again when the going is firm under foot, Koro Peter will have a good view of the filly's style.
Talaro collected expenses at Auckland. He left it a bjt late on the trip, but got it. He will be cherry ripe for August. .
