Wanganui Whispers

(From "N.Z. Truth's"

rTVILITY is being given some road work prior to being put into training again. She has put on a fair amount of condition, but F. Lind reckons on having her ready early m the new season, as she comes to hand very quickly. # * # . Duncan Campion, whose death occurred on Saturday was, m his early days, a splendid amateur rider. He rode Resolution when that horse won the Wanganui Cup m 1878. He was equally at home riding over the fences as on. the flat, and American cowboys would have had nothing on him m the handling of buck-jumpers. # # # If present intentions are adhered to, Ceremony, the brother to Lysander, will make his first appearance at the Avondale meeting. # # # Ceremony had to be eased up m his preparation recently owing to having a cold, but he has thrown this off and is coming along nicely. It is safe to predict that Ceremony will take rank, all going well, with the best of his age next season. # # # Pedestal, <by Thespian— Eulogy, has grown into a splendid looking youngster and he gives great promise. If looks go for anything, he should prove as good as Commendation, whom he resembles greatly. # * * King Mart was given a let-up after his return from Hastings, and has freshened up well. He should be better than ever for his Trentham engagements. He has run consistently m all his races without so far proving m top-class among the hacks, but he is steadily improving and should run well at Trentham. # # $ W. H. Dwyer had to ease Just So up as she was suffering from a slight cold after the Otaki meeting. -She is now going well again, and she will carry a lot of Wanganui money m her races at Trentham if she goes to the post, as she is above the average. F. Tilley expects Avro to run well., at Trentham. This gelding showed good form at Wanganui and Otaki, and has done well since then. He looks to be one of the best of the light-weights m the big event at Trentham, though Bisox must also be hard on her recent showings. ## ■ « Kiosk was In nice order to begin a preparation when he was brought m, and as he appears to be sound, the son of Tea Tray should win some good races next season. With Kiosk and Just So, I. Lupton will have a pair of good ones to carry his colors. # # # J. McDonald disposed of Royal Elm during the Hastings meeting, and the son of Elysian has gone into T. J. Quinlivan's stable. If he keeps sound, Royal Elm will pick up a race or two, and might prove good over the jumps. # # * Paitonu, Bisox, Silvermine, Bonogne and Orazone are all doing good work at Hawera, and the sports there are looking to some of the stake-money being picked up by the above quintette. # # * Orazone has frequently shown that she can gallop very fast on the tracks, and her recent work suggests that she is likely to prove very troublesome m her coming engagements. # # # J. Bull is hopeful that Brigadier Bill will flnd the coimtry at Trentham more to his liking than was the case at Ellerslie. The All Red gelding has gone on the right way since returning to Marton and though he lost caste by his showings at Ellerslie, the gelding will be seen to better advantage at Trentham. ' # # # The programme drawn up for the spring meeting of the Marton Jockey Club is one that should draw good nominations, as the stake-money has been considerably increased on last year's figures.
