RUNAWAY WIN
Issue Never In Doubt From Start (Prom "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) From the hop-off there was never much doubt about what would win the Otorohango Steeplechase at Ellerslie last Saturday. CTAR OF THE EAST streaked to the front and soon placed a big gap between himself and the rest. It was onjy a case of standing up to win. He certainly; did make a couple of feeble leaps on the three-mile journey, but stood up all right.. . . | Had it not been that Pburi stuck gamely to. his task of' chasing the chestnut, the contest would have been •hardly worth .looking at. . Pouri came down the hill the last trip with plenty of ' determination, but Star of the East was top far m front to be caught. '■■'.-, He fjnaljy raced past the deciding line with a twelve lengths' advantage. The third horse, Rahepptp, was 200 yards further back than Fouri, with Hangawera a tired fourth. Royal Form made a faulty jump and was pulled up, while Mangani went out of the picture when he baulked. There, was nothing to gloat over about the winner's promise, for he may never reach top rank as a 'chaser. Still, m near the minimum last Saturday, he made the rest look like a lot of goats.
