But Those Jockeys Did Not Get (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Turf Commissioner.) It came as no surprise ito find that the Auckland district: committee added to the terms' of . disqualification imposed on horsemen concerned in Ttfee charges of '* 'corrupt practice*' at Rotorua,
IN fact, it was universally believed -that the Rotorua judicial committee had .erred on the side of leniency. ,: ; The only surprise expressed was that appeals were actually 'fprth(iiiiiiiMniiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiii|ii|iiini!iiiiiiiiii|iiii)il»lliiiii!i||iJii||iiin!iin|ui]iiimii
coming against the light suspensions Imposed,: It is by no' means certain that the trouble has ended yet awhile, for alleged misdoings at the Takapuna' Cup fixture have- yet to be inquired into. v Other horsemen, besides thqse .already under the ban, are experiencing some anxious moments "over alleged implications that everything wasnqt ip order at that meeting. '••.".' \ The position at present regarding the Rotorua affair is that W;- Rennie, A. Gilmer and C. Garment have had their twelve^month disqualifications increased tp two • years, while J. Met Rae's term went up from six months to two years. -.■" ' Besides this, the. district committee voiced Us opinion very strongly when it .decided that each jockey concerned was to forfeit the £5 accompanying his appeal. In addition to the Rotorua and Takapuna affairs, the district committee is interesting itself over a hurdle race run at Pirongia during the season. The Alexander club has been, asked to hold an inquiry into the running. of the race m question— the Farmers' Hurdles, won by Kawa '■; (Savage), Bonny Canny. (Butler) being, second, and Pepin (Symes) third. The other riders ih the race were Radford, Stead, Jarvis and H. Tinker. Just at present there is. a decided stir ;in : racing circles up north, ahdno matter how it all ends it seems certain the Auckland district comrhittee is intent on a thorough cleaning up. : And the racing public applauds . the committee's efforts to, rid ./'the courses of anything m the nature^ of "Kelly Gangs."
