Defender Douglas
IN the Christchurch Magistrate's Court a young man is on his feet, his voice ringing clearly as he entices from the witness under crossexamination statements about what actually did happen and not what the witness imagined had happened. Douglas W. Russell, one of the coming-along bunch of young legal' practitioners, is the man who Is holding the attention of the court with his skilful questioning. His jaw, with the cast of the fighter, is set— and the fight for the accused is on. It is no half-hearted fight, either, for Russell is a scrapper who knows how to make his points tell. Son of the Pion. G. W. Russell, Douglas, until a few months back, was associate to Judge Adams, but after three years with his honor, he vacated the associate's chair on the Supreme Court bench fbr the floor of the lower court. A keen « Rugbyite, he used to play for Old Boys, and takes an interest m all sport. He is something, too, of a golf enthusiast, but his hobby Is the law and not merely his daily profession. Russell has a bright legal future before him.. He is destined to rise high • m the profession.
