AND HE FAILED ONCE AGAIN
THE combination of Maunga and "Bo." Griffith has come In for a lot * of eritioiom since they have been associated these last two winters. Some of it was deserved— some not. In the' National last year, Griffith appeared to make an error coming to the stand double— and he paid the penalty. This year, m the Northern, it was very questionable whether Griffith should have lost his seat.. Early m the week, at Hastings, it was freely rumored that a new rider was to be tried on Maunga and on the night before the meeting > Allan McDonald was engaged. ..'.,'■ .... ■■-■. iU .In fact, he was asked if he were free to ride the gelding for the remainder of his engagements this winter. McDonald took the ride last But he had no better 1 luck than "Bo.," for Maunga, after fencing only moderately, spilt" McDonald five fWlongs from home. Maunga's record— pulled up, fourth, lost rider, fell, fell— -is anything but inspiring, and those who have stuck to him this year must be feeling the strain. . i# From now on the public is going to hold off and let him prove himself. Then there will be another rush to be on him.
