Capable Coles
THE town clerk of Hokitlka, H. G. F. Coles, is a living example of the folly of the Government m retiring its capable officers when comparatively young men. . ■ . ■ ■ • . A West Coaster, born at Okarito, Coles joined the postal service and m course of time drifted back to the Coast town as postmaster. He ' remained m that occupation In Hokitika for a period of six years, when he retired. But Coles, though retired, had no intention of donning skull-cap and slippers and waiting f oi 1 the end of things m a state of premature dotage. Not he. Full of pep and energy, he looked round for fresh avenues for his abilities and his hustle was successful m bringing him very much before the borough council. In any case, he was not losing a Job if one was going and the council appointed him town clerk last year. ' Still m his early fifties, Coles is going strong and likely to do so'for many years to come. ;•....•
