STRAIGHT BITS AND SPURS
JAMIESON MAY GOTO AUSSIE TT is stated J. T. Jamieson will probably take on. Australia towards the end of the present month, m which case it will not be surprising to note Perception and Prince Humphrey among the team taken. Both threaten to do things as three-year-olds. GOING SOUTH THERE is some talk of G. Holland joining up with Trilford's stable at Washdyke. He was aboard Tuki when that 'chaser ran second m the Great.Northern Steeplechase. TO date, nothing of a, strenuous nature has been asked of Beacon Light. To the eye he looks sound enough, but whether this is the case will be found out when the hard part is asked him. A SYDNEY TRIP? THE latest to talk about a Sydney trip is the Hastings trainer, Luke Wilson. If he should go, Raasay, which has an engagement m the A. J.C. Derby, will be the bright star of the team. MO FAVOURS won the Bracelet at Napier Park, /but he was not really expected m the. right quarters. Ever since 'he has been m training, the Kilbroney gelding has been anything but reliable — and he still appears to be a bit that way.
DONOVAN'S. MISSION DILL. 'DONOVAN, who went to Sydney a fortnight back, expects to : pay a flying visit home next month. | His main mission will be to pack up some rising two-year-olds, which will be raced — and possibly sold — m Sydney. INFORMATION gathered at Napier Park was to the effect that Perle de Leon is progressing well and that he is almost a certain starter at Trentham. UNLUCKY YEARLING DAZZLE DAZZLE'S first foal, which ** is by Grandcourt, has not been too lucky as a yearling. . She got into some wire and marked a leg; then, last Sunday, while kicking m her box, she injured a leg. The youngster is a big. lump of a horse and may need a bit of time. AFTER running at Otaki, Peshwa ** broke' down. Bad' luck for him ty go at this time of the year. OHOULD Perle de Leon be a runner m the Winter Hurdles at Trentham, it would cause no surprise to find Bert Ellis having the mount. Here's hoping he will!
[A STEEPLECHASE HOPE TT is not generally known that Star of the East was operated upon some months back for wind trouble. Apparently this was a successful operation, for he shows no signs of real trouble. This chestnut is a very likely minor steeplechase victor of the future. IS BRANSON AFFECTED? THERE is some doubt about Branson A being ..affected m the respiratory organs, but he is still m light work at Ellerslie. It is hoped nothing will stay his progress, for he is more than useful at his best. DRAEMAN may win a race at HasD tings this week, but punters will not benefit a great deal. They are sick to death of him. TE KUITI A GREAT BOON THE Te Kuiti meeting at Ellerslie at * the end of the month comes as a. great boon to northerners. It is a wonder some of the minor country clubs up north do not arrange for regular dates during the winter season, for success would be almost assured, and it would break the big spell from June to September as m previous years. Te Kuiti meeting simply cannot help proving a financial success this term. VV7HEN Dreamy scored at Napier Park " she gave Jock Hockley his first win as a trainer. It was good to see the boy taste success.
SCRAMBLED EGGS A WELL-KNOWN owner was bringing- a good load of aggs to Waipukurau for the Jockey Club ball ' when his car got into trouble and left the road. The car and the eggs suffered, but fortunately neither the ; owner nor his wife was injured. TT is generally believed that some ofi those concerned m the Rotorua affair who escaped without suspension have no easy job before them m becoming possessed of "briefs" for the coming season. BENEFICIAL SPELL ICING'S JEST, a full-brother to Anomaly, and which had bad legs when flrst tried, is back with Stewart Waddell. The two years' spell has seen him grown into a nice horse and he should pay for the patient treatment that has been accorded him. TN conversation with "N.Z. Truth" this ■*■ week, Bert Ellis said he would not be averse- to taking a ride m the Wellington and -v the Grand National Steeplechases and m the big hurdle races at the same meetings.
