, Shadowland Fails At Ashburton (By "The Toff'.") - • The form of Shadowland in -the Ashburton County Handicap .was a body-blow to punters. As usual, he was alow away, but picked up a good position with a mile and ahalf to go. pOING along tho back, he looked to have the issue in safe keeping] whenever he tvajited it, but when the straight was reached he failed in disappointing fashiOii. . . I . Avenger made the running for a mile and three-quarters from Nantwioh, Honour Bright, Double Event, and Jackie Audubon. but a furlong from home Avenger. Honour Bright and Nantwlch were beaten. Double Event, whfoh had left the mark like a good horse, then ,got to the front, with Jackie Audubon after him. A hundred yards from the judge, Jackie Audubon headed Double Event and went on to win in good style by & length. The performances of Jackie Audubon and Double Event were distinctly pleasing. ' , Jean McElwyn went her usual h'onest race and is entitled to be considered one of the, most consistent pacers racing. Wharepiana made a big effort in the straight, but fourth place was the best she could obtain. Rounding the far bend, Epigram moved into fourth place, but he failed in the run home. Event, La Sonette and Bing Boy went to a break at the start. • Jackie Audubon is a five-year-old gelding by Great Audubon from Lady Moth and is. owned by J. J. Kennerley) who drove him a heady race. i . .
