PENALIZING THE PRESS
THE Dunedin Jockey Club cannot 'be commended for its action in reducing the press accommodation to provide more room in the owners' and trainers' stand at Wingatui. At no stage during the recent winter meeting 1 did the owners .and trainers make full use of the increased accommodation provided for them, while a goodly number of those occupying seats had no. right to be there. : The press stand has had its frontage reduced to 7ft. lOin., which gives only sufficient room for four men to work. Unless some '. alteration is made, the. D.J.C. will find itself quickly alienating the support of an organization which has contributed in a large measure to its present successful position. HOURS OF SUSPENSE \ OOME of the sittings held at Auck- *? ' land in connection 1 with the Rotorua inquiry during the Great Northern meeting, constitute records from the time viewpoint. ■•;'. The Rotorua heads, aided by. two city sportsmen .acting as deputies, were hours on the job at different stage's, while the strain must have been even worse for those horsemen who had to i suffer tho brunt of crpss-examinatlop.
