•THERE are very few men in Rotorua * who have more at their finger tips than Alfred T. Butt, for he is a man of some galvanic force, being well up in static, faradic, diathermic and a lot of other technical ics, which are double Dutch to the lay man. The reason ia that he is an, expert layer- on of hands as every masseur must of necessity be and if the seekers after alleviation from many of the isma to which the flesh is heir . should be fearsome, on entering his chamber, at the sight of the varied assortment of thingomebobs of steel and iron, they will soon have their misgivings set at rest, for Butt's cheerful features, and pleasant disposition alone are disarming 1 and reassuring. He is a man 1 of many parts, being a first-class Maori interpreter, an ertthuiastic gardener, and consequently a lover of the beautiful; somewhat of a raconteur, and a most confirmed bowler. . Born in that old stronghold of the truculent Hau Haus, Muketu, on t!he east- coast, Butt has a host of friends and acquaintances in and around about the centre of the North Island, and being also a man, of no mean literary knowledge, he contrives to keep anyone who comes to him for an electric stimulation entirely interested, or amused, while they are in his company
