But Response Is Poor (From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) The Stewards' Committee of the Dunedin Club has long had the . reputation of being a conservative body, , MEMBERS of the club, however, are always ready to listen to suggestions. Some months ago the hunting fraternity suggested' that m view of the number of hunters following hounds m South Canterbury and Otago a hunters' steeplechase might be included m the winter programme. The club agreed to the suggestion and attached a £200 stake to the event. It received little support from those who sponsored the request. The' only acceptors from the hunting strongholds of South Canterbury are Captain Sarto and Message Boy. Under ordinary circumstances, they would have, been at the meeting as thejr owners are fairly regular patrons of Wing"atui. : Instances of this kind can only have one effect. — and owners will be the ones to suffer most.
