SATURDAY-AND THE NORHTERN MEETING WILL BE UNDER WAY
OTAKI HAS_BIG FIELDS Picking Cup and Flying Will Be Hard Task There is a surplus of horses m work at the present time, judging by the big acceptances received for Otaki and Ellerslie.
AT the former meeting, every event has filled exceedingly well and the prospects are for a hard day for the punters. ' ' There are eighteen m the Cup, and fifteen m the Flying; • Paitonu, which has won m his last two starts, he&ds the Cup- field, and though he will now have to travel a little further there is no reason why he shouldn't." . . He won easily at Wanganui, despite the fact there was only a nose m it. He now appears to have come solid, and that is everything. ' ■ • Glenross appealed at Wanganui by his two efforts, but the distance will «uit him better on Monday. Royal Damon has yet to really fight out the journey and he will be passed by - ■ .■'.. . ' , • ' Nukumai has had' a couple of races and he threatens to be a nuisance very s6on. , In fact, he may be so at this meetIng..' ' . . ' ■■ . S Vesperus failed at Wanganui, but it •was excusable for a horse of his type to do so. : > He will find Otaki more' to his liking and the ground should not trouble him to any extent. David Garrick will have friends, and Horomea will have plenty of them. Her end to end victory m. the Connolly was a high-class effort. Not a great -deal will be' said of Atarerla and Lady Limond, 'but Ring
Boy is a light-weight with possibilities, notwithstanding his failure at Wanganui. The track will suit him nicely at Otaki. • Kilmiss is too moody and the distance may be just a trifle too far for Beaumont, but it has to be remembered he was twice fourth at Wanganui. It is hardly likely that' any of . those on the minimum will be up to the task. . . • ; .- Horses that should be m the market are Vesperus, Paitonu and Horomea. Just what they will make favorite m the Flying is hard to say, but.it may be First Acre, which is trained on the track. He could not handle the going at Wanganui— many horses found it that way— but Saturday should be different. Duke Abbey will give some bother and so must Royal Ceres, which won at his last outing. That was at the Marlborough meeting at Trentham. Kaitl is sure to be one of the tough bunch to head off, for he is a game one. He has his Hastings victory to his credit. • ; Hulkal and Kilperon are fast horses near the bottom; while there are the two promoted hacks engaged — Helotis and Fee Simple. . Helotis, with her feather-weight, will set a merry pace. Three that should claim a lot. of attention are First Acre, Kaiti and Royal Ceres.
