League Pioneer

•TRAVEL, where you like on the West 1 Coast and ask anybqdy who first

introduced League football to the district.

They will tell you readily enough: "Why, J.D. Wingham, of course." And that is why to-day J.D.W., one of the best -known men m Groymouth and on the Coast generally, is known as "T*he Pathei* of the League Code." Get Wingham chatting about the early days of the code on the Coast and you will hear some interesting facts. He had to do a great deal of hard battling, but perseverance and the man are inseparable — and the result of his efforts may ..-be seen m the nourishing state of the code to-day. Wingham has been on the Coast now for over sixteen years and has always identified himself with the progress of the town -and district.

He is at present chairman of the Progress League, chairman of the local League centre and interested m many other activities that exist for the betterment of sport and civic affairs.

A live wire is J.D.W., who cuts a great deal of ice among his fellow citizens.
