Hunter Explains
GEORGE HUNTER, chief citizen m the town district of Wyndham, whose motoring exploits m Dunedin while m a state of alleged intoxication were related m last week's "Truth," succeeded m having his case reheard. Counsel submitted that Hunter, when arrested, was 'just' on the borderline of intoxication, and that if his engine had not stalled just as he was approaching the tramcar at the Caversham terminus, he would never have come under the notice of the constable.
Being an auctioneer, as well as chairman of the Town Board, it necessitated a considerable amount of motor travelling for Hunter.
The magistrate took into consideration Hunter's previous good record, and granted the rehearing. He increased the fine from £10 to £15 and reduced the term of suspension of Hunter's driving license from one year to three- months.
