THE WOBBLE
Many Simple Causes One of the most annoying trou« bles to which a car is heir is that of wheel wobble. OOMETIMES a very small thing can change a car from a steady, easy running machine to a vile contraption that requires a heavy hand to hold it down to the road at. anything over a moderate touring speed. The writer came across a case the other day where a car had suddenly developed wheel wobble, and the owner found himself utterly at a Joss to account for it until the cause was found to be a sleeve which had Deen inserted m a repaired tyre on the left hand front wheel. The sleeve was sufficient to throw the wheel out of balance, and as soon as the. car attained a speed of from 25 to 27 m.p.h. an almost uncontrollable wobble commenced, which shook the car from end to end, rendering steering a difficult job. When the wheel was balanced by the removal of the repaired tyre and the substitution of a new one, the trouble disappeared as suddenly as it had come. The experience of this owner might prove of value to others who have had similar experiences. While on this subject It might be interesting to note that makers of light cars are now carefully balancing their wheels and advising owners to check the balance as tyre wear develops. The result of accurate wheel balance has been found to be that a car holds the road much more steadily and a higher maximum speed is attainable,
