Whispers From Wanganui
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) POVENT GARDEN was backed and beaten at Wanganui. The soft going, did not help the little son of Absurd — Cherry Mart. . - B. G. Bennett was very confident that King Mart would win a race at Wanganui, but he finished just outside of a place each day. ' • !■ ■ * . ' . • The extra dash which Brigadier Bill put into his jumping at Wanganui compared with his Hawera display, surprised Jas. Bull as much as it did others who witnessed both races. ■■■-.■•.•/•■•' • If Brigadier Bill can improve still further before racing at Ellerslie, the All Red gelding will go near landing the double. Albert Jackson, who is once again, located at WanganuX has got hold of a promising hack hurdler m Our Jack. This gelding led the field most of the way m the hack hurdles the first, day, fencing m a style which suggests that he will make good aa a jumper. ■#. ' ' # ' .' # - ; .■ ; ■ ' Shining Armour has not taken kindly to the jumping game. He has plenty of pace, and m his schooling essays has v shown that he can jump when he likes, but at times he seems afraid of the obstacles. He baulked both days at Wanganui. # ..* • '. ■ Glenross had not raced for a long time prior to starting m the. Connolly Handicap. He showed fair form m that event, also m the Empire Handicap on Saturday, but was nothing like his best. He might shape better at Otaki. • .■ ■ : •'■■' • ■ * "■■ ' F.- Tilley will take Glenrosa, Shining Armour, Consent, Limited and Avro to Otaki. " Consent will be a runner m the maiden, and from the way she was hitting out on the track at Wanganui she promises to run a big race. ' . ■ ■# ■ ' •■ ■ ■ • ' ■ ' " Just So is training on well now, though she contracted a cold a couple of weeks agro that put her back a bit. The half-sister to Kiosk is to run m the Maiden at Otaki, and will be hard to beat if she leaves the barrier at all smartly. . - , .'•■■#'"■'. *■ • * ' . - Limosa has thrown off the soreness that troubled her after racing at Awapuni, but she may not be at her best for Otaki. ' ■■ ■ • #-..■•' Royal. Elm was backed both days • at Wanganui, but could not get into the money. He may do better at Otaki. ' • • • ■ •■■ ■ ■ The fact that 'a bird flew so close over her head as to touch the hat she was wearing made a lady decide to back Moa Bird m the concluding event at Wanganui on Saturday, with the result, that she duly raked m a nice dividend. ■' '
