SOUGHT DEATH ■ . ♦ . When Her Paramour Went Away (From "N.Z. Truth's" Palmerston Rep.) A Foxton domestic, aged 28} whose name, by order of Magistrate J. L. Stout, was suppressed, was charged last week with having . attempted to commit suicide by drinking some lotion marked "for external use only." A few brief moments and the case was over. ABOUT 12 months ago the woman, with her paramour, went to Foxton to reside. Accused and the man apparently did not get on well together while they were m Foxton, and were continually disagreeing, with a result that some few months ago he announced his intention of leaving her. This he did, but later returned. On the 14th of this month, however, he again decided to seek fresh fields and pastures new, packing his swag for Wellington. Her pleadings with him to remain were without avail. Driven to desperation, the woman drank the contonts of a bottle of lotion made up by a local chemist from a doctor's prescription and marked "for external use only." She pleaded guilty. Commenting that she was "vqry foolish" to attempt to do such a thing and that she was more sinned against than sinning, the magistrate convicted and discharged her, ordering her to meet the doctor's fee. Left destitute, with scarce . but the clothes on her back, this woman will find it hard to brave the talk of scan-dal-mongers, while the man who has now rejected her Is troubled by his conscience, but certainly not by any Ipgal rcsponelbUltioa,
