A SHBURTON enjoys a measure of f\ aridity, a dinky domain, being call-
Ed "the home of trotting," mighty severe frosts, and an extra special High School. Regarding the latter, Ashburton features as "Exhibit A". Headmaster William F. Watters, whose efforts over a long period . of years have placed the school on a dizzy pinnacle of efficiency. Watters has a reputation throughout Canterbury and Otago for shrewd organizing ability, wide erudition and four-square common-sense. He juggled with chalk and blackboard at the Tokomairlro (Milton) High School for some years, but now seems assured of a life tenure at Ashburton. And Ashburton is well satisfled that it should be so*
For m addition to moulding the young idea on sound and sane lines, W.F.W. has the bump of civic responsibility well developed.
He is a tower of strength to the Rugby Union and kindred sports bodies; when he lifts up his voice at meetings, he is accorded the accolade of silence and undivided attention. "Watters 1 school will be an enduring monument to him long after he has become a charge on the pension fund.
