IN THE BLOOD
Those Australian
Cricketers
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Cricket Correspondent.)
It was a sore point; with our New Zealand team that during its visit Home, it was not afforded an opportunity to be tried out against the full strength of England.
TN many of the matches, the star players were • not chosen to oppose the New Zealanders. Our men did well, 'but many wanted to see them in action against the best bowlers and •batsmen of old England.
All desires for full representative try : outs should receive ample satisfaction when, in the autumn, the great Australian eleven will favor the Dominion with a visit.
The team that's coming is worthy of representing Australia in Test Cricket. The greatest run-getter in the world to-day, Billy Ponsford, will be. on hand, and his appearance alone is sufficient guarantee that the tour will be a success.
• It is a safe prediction that the Victorian will smash up a few New Zealand records before the tour terminates.
' Ponsford, during the past five years, has been breaking record after record.
Unless our New Zealand selectors can bring 1 to" light some star bowler, it is hard to imagine .what will happen if Ponsford is in scoring mood. Undoubtedly we are weak in bowling m New Zealand.
. Other great batsmen .who will add to big totals will be Woodfull and Kippax. However, it is only by associating with the best, that cricket will advance in New Zealand.
'; Australia is anxious to assist the game in this country and the coming visit 13 a compliment in that 'direction.
The full team coming is W. H. Ponsford, W. M. Woodfull, D. Blackie, F. Morton (Victoria), V. Richardson, C. V. Grimmett, K. Schneider, W. C. Alexander (South Australia), A. F. Kippax, A. Jackson, R. McNamee, W. Oldsfield (New South Wales) R. Oxenham (Queensland). The reserves are P. Hornibrook (Queensland), J. Scarf e (Victoria), A. Bradman, (N.S.W.) .
