Fine — But Too Fine
'THE amateur athletic champion- *■ ships of Australia and New Zealand were notable for a number of remarkably close finishes that must have given the judges considerable food for thought in announcing the placings.
In the final of the 100yds., Leadbetter and Parker flashed past the tape so close together for second place that the spectators on the east side said "Leadbetter" ; those on the west were for Parker. The judges gave a dead-heat, but strangely enough, each man thought he had just got there.
The final of the hurdles saw Lander hit the last two and Scott (N.S.W.) almost snatched victory from him in the last six inches.
Similarly in the 440yds. hurdles, Ramson plunged exhausted at the tape and Frank Nesdale burst up to make a dead-heat of it. But most unexpected of all was the closeness of the three-mile finish when inches only separated Rose from Savidan.
