GOOD POLICY
Will Not Be Hard On Him
Some owners when they get a good horse cannot get it round the countryside fast enough.
DACE after race is won, but with ** what result? Should the horse be a two-year-old, he is generally "fixed" for good and all.
Thus it is refreshing to learn that Staghunter is not to have such a career.
Realizing he has Something out of the ordinary Eric Riddiford is going to be easy with his youngster.
After Staghunter won the Foal Stakes the intentions were to send him home.
However, a bit of rain — and with the horse literally jumping out of his skin — it was decided to let him contest the Royal Stakes on the last day of the meeting.
In addition to the beneficial effect the race would have, there was not a great deal of opposition offering.
Possibly Staghunter will race in the Stakes at Trentham this month and then there is the Champagne Stakes to follow.
He may have another outing or so, but that is problematical.
Whatever Staghunter turns outchampion or moderate — his owner will always have the consolation (if it be the latter) that over-racing as a youngster was not the root of the evil.
