PUNTERS' PILL

Another Favorite Goes Under

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) The Auckland, Cup fixture of 1927*28 will livd lono in the memorv of punters by reason of the fact that three hot classic favorites went under.

THE third was in the Royal Stakes on *■ the final day, when Staghunter, after leading to the turn, went out wide and lost sufficient ground to get no nearer than third to Prince Humphrey and Gascony.

There was hardly anything inconsistent in the showing of the winner as compared with the Foal Stakes, for he was fourth that day in 1.13, while it took 1.14 to run the Royal Stakes under ideal conditions.

There was some doubt existing over the weight carried by Prince Humphrey and there were rumors of protests, but as a matter of fact the dividend wa3 paid out — and that is what counts most with the betting public. . The position is that Prince Humphrey's right weight was generally assessed at 7.11, while he carried 7.13.

It transpires, however, that nowadays two pounds overweight is allowed; therefore the winner was within his rights.
