The fetish of prohibition in the King Country led Violet May Hemmingson under the guidance of Lawyer Matthews to ask for her freedom from Jens Peter, her husband on the ground of excessive indulgence in John Barleycorn, LIAVING had one unlucky experience *■* in her first marriage, Mrs. Hemmingson had a delusion that she would be safe from the menace in the fastness of the King Country, It proved a delusion, for Jens drank to excess and though two prohibition orders were taken out at different times, the bits of paper 'had not the % restraining effect. Not only did her husband drink, but he became brutal in drink and ill-used her. Jens seems to have put in the boot as well and had so tried the patience of his wife that he had finished up in court and served time for his brutality. His Honor, Judge Reed, thought Violet May was entitled to her freedom.
