Magistrate Cutten Softens the Blow
IF one were to seek the difference between a politician and a magistrate, it would not be hard to find; where the former ove whelms his listeners with
an oft-times ill-considered flood of words, the litter seldom give ( s utterance to a single sentence without due and weighty consideration. jn this category is Ernest Cargill Cutten, whom you will perchance see mounting the magisterial throne of the Auckland Poljce Court. Not that he is slow in giving his judgment, but when it comes 'tis generally a gem of wisdom. • While Magistrate Cutten is under the necessity of handing out punishment where it is needed, he doesn't believe in damping a man's soul for all time. As a vice-president of the Prisoners' Aid Socpty, he finds time to help lift those who have fallen by the way from the Sloigh of Despond. A pleasing admixture of sternness and geniality, this capable dispenser of Justice interests himself in anything pertaining tojthe welfare of youth.
