RECAPTURED !

Hawke Cup Returns To Wanganui

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) Wanganui gained a rather surprisingly easy win in the Hawke Cup match at New Plymouth and brought the trophy back to the River City.

THE winners owed their victory prin--1 cipally to the splendid play of two youths— Bunny and Kerr — backed up by the excellent bowling of Dr. Williams.

Bunny broke the hearts of the Taranaki trundlers by his long and very patient innings, in which he never gave the semblance of a chance. It was batting of the Woodful type. Kerr gave a brighter display, making his runs by excellent batting. Orr played a stylish innings, while Holland gave really the finest display for his 61 not out.

The fielding of the Wanganui team was first-class, and Dr. Williams showed better form than anticipated with the ball,' proving very successful.

Poverty Bay will play Wanganui next week for the Cup. The Wanganui team will probably be the same as that which beat Taranaki, though there is a doubt as to whether Bunny will be available.

Jf the young Collegiate School boy is able to play ( the challengers

might conceivably be defeated.

The visitors are bringing over a solid combination and if the luck swings their way they might take the Cup away. If they do lift the trophy they' will thoroughly deserve their success as they made a game effort last season and mean to make a big try again next week. -
