St. Heliers Handicap Sees Mix-up
Of Man and Beast
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.)
What promised to be an interesting contest for the St. Heliers Handicap of ten furlongs, at Alexandra Park on opening day was spoilt by the most likely contestants coming to grief as they rushed past the stand.

'THIS left two, in First Carbine and 1 Hue Coronado to come from the . rear to complete the last five furlongs of the journey alone. They shared the main prizes in that order. . Later on, both Lord Nepean and Anselm, which had collided earlier in the race went after the third money. Lord Nepean got there for the half century. The mix-up was caused owingto Amaris falling when leading a closely bunched lot just rounding a
curve. Black Lila, Nelson Tasker, All Bell and Concliff all toppled over.
The most remarkable part of the tangle was that it was not attended with more serious resu-lts.
As a matter of fact the only real injury was that suffered by J. Shaw, driver of Amaris, who dislocated a shoulder.
Cockbill, driver of All Bell, suffered slight abrasions on one hand while a broken sulky resulted from Nelson Taaker careering round the track driverless.
Under the circumstances, the race was a bit of a fiasco.
The winner would have had little show of success but for the mishap.
