Featherston Events Looked Over

It takes all sorts of people to make a world and it takes . all sorts of horses to make a race meeting.

SO, though necessity demands that a meeting have several big events, it also calls for a similar number of minor races "small fry. "

The smallest of small fry come under the heading of maiden races and there is one at Tauherenikau on Saturday.

Most of those engaged are unknown, /but one that has been shaping fairly well of late is Mark Mint.

He ran well over a furlong more at Awapuni. Another that was in the same race was Holus Bolus.

For a pure novice he showed up with more than average promise.

In the Featherston Welter, Mandarine may come into prominence.

There is only one thing against him — the course, but he may get over that.

Under the scale of weights Vexatious may stand up to it a deal better than the others.

There are several speedy sorts in the hack six furlongs and the first to be mentioned is Helotis.

She never let the rest in at Awapuni and the turning course will suit her on Saturday.

Panther has so far failed to run to what was expected,, but he may soon make amends, while King Midas has shown how to go round turns before to-day.

The last race is over a mile and with a number in it unknown as to ability to cover that distance there

may be some confusion.

Ring Boy is one that has been seen to advantage over the journey. Of the rest, most has to be left to imagination, but Twink would have a show in her best form.

J^ J. MASON is not expected at El- ' lerslie to lead in Agrion should the favorite land the Derby. Son Percy is in charge of the Ellerslie team.
