Two- and Three -Year-Old Sprinters Clash At Ellerslie

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Representative.) - . Two-year-olds have had all the best of matters in connection with the classic Royal Stakes decided on the final day of the A.R.O summer meeting.

HPHE records reveal that of the 32 1 contests to date no fewer than eighteen of juvenile age have survived, against twelve three-year-olds and two four-year-olds. Nowadays, the race is for two ' and three-year-olds only, the stake-money attached to next Tuesday's contest totalling £1000— £700 to first, £200 to second and £100 to third. At time of writing, all the best two and three-year-old sprinters engaged at the big Ellerslie fixture are booked for competition. Most interest will centre in the meeting of Childsplay, Staghunter and Eulalie. If Paganelll and Clmabue are found in the field, they may both improve on their displays in the Railway. Paganelli's prospects that day were not enhanced by being drawn at No. 13 at the barrier. As for Gascony, he was sore before competing in the Railway and it remains to be seen whether he can fully recover before Royal Stakes day. Childsplay may not be so sorely pressed early as in the fight for the lead in the Foal Stakes, in which case she may last longer in front. Still, she cannot be regarded as one likely to stay on in, a bitter fight. Probably Staghuhter will have it on her again at the close of six furlongs.
