RAPIER'S GREAT WORK

Stars On The Training Tracks* (By "The Toff.") After following Count Cavour home m recent work-outs Rapier retrieved his lost laurels on Thursday last by registering a fine performance over a mile.

HE was always going well within himself and he has firmed again for the big contest a,t Auckland. Stormy is beginning to tickle the heart-strings of spectators at Rlccarton. He is under F. D. Jones and is fast assuming his. very best shape. Footfall is rid of the lameness that caused a few days' stop work, but instead of the enforced rest doing him harm, it appears to have done him good. The gelding's concluding work-outs point to him being a tough customer for the others to dispose of In the Auckland Cup. One of the fittest horses at Riocarton is Paperchase. She has done a splendid preparation and she should not get beaten at Auckland. Assurance is right at the top of his form and should be m the money shortly. The English horse, Hoylake, is on the improve and he should gather more stake-money m the near future. What a beauty Battle Colours is. He should pay his way pretty easily. Nincompoop is working particularly well just now and completes his tasks m impressive style. Tarleton is being kept going m view of Christmas racing. Walt till he steps out again over hurdles. Matarma has improved considerably sinco Tlmaru so be on him at Auckland.

Ai-ikiwai is a speedy customer that will annex some sprint events. At present he is not acting like a stayer. Money Order is a fancy for the Railway Handicap at Auckland. On his work it serves him right. Satrap is responding with every work-out and he will be m great nick for Ellerslie. Pull Feather is coming along also. Magna Charta is brand new and his work is very pleasing, but it is. doubtful if he will be forward enough to go to Auckland. Count Cavour has been giving a lot of cheek In his track work. On three occasions he made a donkey of Rapier. His essays have been of an inspiring character, but when they get to busir ness at Auckland Rapier probably will reverse matters. Count Cavour ceri tainly is back to the top of his form. Agrlon is m great order and he will strip a better horse at Auckland than ■when he won the New Zealand Derby. Look out for Goblin Market. He will be knocking at the door at Christmas time. Chlldsplay is built to order for money-making. She provides a thrill every morning she works. She is one for the ladies at Auckland. Eulalie has a torrent of speed and something- will have to happen to prevent her from scoring m the near future.
