BOWLER MILLS
Comes To Light In Auckland (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Once again it has to be chronicled that the ball beat the bat on Auckland wickets this season, and the conditions were certainly not in favor of the trundlers. THE outstanding performances with *■ the bat were a century and ten by Mathieson, of jVarsity, another objectlesson innings by Bowley for 79, a 93 by Gillespie, and a half-century by Sloman, of Grafton. Mathieson has not come prominently into view this season so far—he was the discovery of last year as a fast bowler —but his 111 of Saturday was an effort which will cheer the selectors, though it should not be allowed to develop .flattery. Mills came to light with an analysis of three for two runs against Grafton, but probably he was as much surprised as anyone that he "came off" with such success. Another newcomer who has shown a good deal of ability this year with the ball is Williams, of the United Suburbs. He is a bowler with a nice variety of deliveries, and his five wickets for 54 against NorMi Shore on Satur,d,ay demands resfAct.
