THE GOLD CUP

(By "The Toff.")

It was good to see Silk Thread and Logan Park fighting out the Gold Cup at Wellington.

THEY were at it tooth and nail all down the home stretch , and the speed was on. They stepped on the gas to the tune of 30 3/ssecs. over the last quarter with both horses full of step at the finish, Silk Thread having a length advantage of his opponent when the judge was reached. Pan Yan carried on the running over the first mile with Silk Thread, William the Great, Stunt Artist, Fight Ever, Bonny Logan, and Logan Park racing.in that order. Menember, which broke at the start, was back with Ahuriri, which was never near the danger zone. With a round to go Logan Park came on the outside to be in fourth place going out of the straight. Nearing the mile and a-half post Silk Thread headed Fjiu Yan and

Logan Park proceeded to collar Silk Thread. The twelve furlongs were negotiated in 3.27 1/5. From there on the contest was a two-horse affair, Silk Thread and Logan Park drawing right away from their opponents. Of the beaten division Bonny Logan arrived just in time to annex third money. She was very tired when she crossed the line. Fight Ever and William the Great shut up in disappointing fashion. Silk Thread is owned by the Wellington sportsman, J. R. McKenzie, who imported the son of Bingen Silk and Handsome Jane from America. Silk Thread is entitled to a lot of credit for it was known that he was sore due to a splint.
