NEW BRIGHTON MINOR EVENTS

A good goer on the grass tracks, Peter Swift may shake things along at New Brighton.

Prospects For The Seaside !

(By "The Toff.")

The summer meeting of the New Brighton Trotting Club will be the centre of attraction' this week.

THE first day is Thursday, when big fields are certain to line out for each contest. The course is in splendid order and speculators are promised an interesting afternoon's entertainment. For the Trial Handicap several unhoppled trotters will be seen in action. Among them are numerous "has beens" and would-be good performers, if it were not for some if or other. Taipoiti Is a quick beginner and unless some alleged champion is uncorked she may go near winning. Quickflre is a fair sort and has what' is known as a rough chance. Everybody knows that Mickey Audubon can muster up a lot of speed, and under J. Kennerley's tuition there is a good chance of him making a fair performer. ' Trampcrisp will have to prove himself in a race before backers will invest any more money on him. Nancy McKinney is fast and she can stay, but she, too, is not reliable enough to put much money on. Great Elect is a good beginner and an every-day sort. Along with Sarsaparilla he is the pick of the back markers. Taipoiti, Quickflre and Great Elect may have most to say at the finish. ! For the Improvers' Handicap, Lady Matchlight should appeal to students of promising pacers. She won at Ashburton and did well at Greymouth. If Vestas went a true race he would win pretty easily. Then there is that solid old pacer Kyana, which won at Wellington. Regarding the remainder of. the field Binscarth and Panto are perhaps the pick.

In a tussle for the money Lady Matchlight, Kyana and Chimer may be prominent. After the Mace Memorial Handicap a bunch of sprinters will assemble to dispute the Bowhill Handicap, which this year will be decided over a mile and a-quarter. Epigram won over a similar distance at Ashburton, but Auditress may prove too good for him on Thursday. Sungleam ran second at Ashburton, but he may not beat Epigram. Locanda General was first home at Methven, so it is likely that luck in the running will decide the winner. At the same time quite a number will be disappointed if Auditress, Epigram and Locanda General are not in the picture. Provided everything is to his liking Lord Bingen will make them hurry over a mile, which is the distance of the Dash Handicap. Avenger and Berenice should reel off a merry mile, and when the judge posts up the numbers Lord Bingen, Avenger and Berenice may be among them. On his Dunedin showing Randolph will be in demand for the Sea View Handicap, but if Tiny Moon Is in good humor she may make him hurry up. Little Johnnie and Katute have a fair chance, so has Bonny Spec, but when they reach the place where the man pays out Randolph, Tiny Moon* and Little Johnnie may be prominent. A good field will line out for the Wainoni Handicap. The journey is ten furlongs, which will suit Trimmer, Dalmeny and Logan Holme, and in the Electric Handicap Pointalena, Zenith and. Granite City imay go well.
