old-timers
DLAYGOERS whose hair is thinning * and who feel the draughts, will tell you that present-day snows are not up to the standard of entertainment provided a oouple of decades ago. Here are some of the companies which were touring New Zealand a little over twenty years ago. Anderson's Dramatic Co., Charles Arnold's Comedy Co., Williamson's "Ben Hur" and "Sherlock Holmes" Dramatic Cos., Bland Holt's Dramatic Co., Maggie Moore's Dramatic Co., Charles Hollo - way's Dramatic Co., Wilson Barrett's Dramatic Co., and George Musgrove's Dramatic Co. In addition, P. R. Dix and John Fuller were running vaudeville, Wirth's and' Fitzgerald's had circuses, and there were comedy and musical comedy shows galore. The "smalls" had their quota of touring companies, and several concert parties managed to keep the wolf from the door. Of course there were no picture shows which to-day are such keen competitors with the "legitimate". Still the above array reads very well and the old-timers have something to bast their arguments on.
