MADAME SEES
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) Madame Bennett, alias Elizabeth Vivian Duke, is a pedagogue of prescience, so perhaps that is whyshe did not appear m person when her name was called at the Auckland Police Court recently to answer a charge of telling fortunes. TT is scarcely probable, though, that ■*■ even as a seer, madame foresaw that Magistrate McKean would impose a fine of £10. Chief Detective Cummings recounted details of what "Madame" had predicted for one lady visitor. The lady was destined to marry a widower who had two children. She would then be favored with a trip round the world. The visitor was to be exceptionally careful m signing documents — very sound advice. Furthermore, she who paid 2/6 to hear Madame's warnings and words of wisdom, was to prepare herself for the sudden death of an aged relative. A constable who called upon the clairvoyant was told to come back the next morning as the visiting list was then somewhat full. Keeping the appointment, he paid 5/- to be told that he should become a spiritualist. He "also was due for a black band round his arm m remembrance of rela- , tions dear. "This sort of thing brings sorrow and grief into homes," concluded the informing police officer. "She should not be m such very poor circumstances if she had so many clients," remarked his worship m giving his decision. "It is strange how easily some people part . with their money."
