HEAT IN THE DIF.

TOURING the first few hundred miles of a car's life it is not infrequently found that the differential will get hot owing to the close meshing of the mechanism. Heat can easily be detected by the simple expedient of touching the differential casing with the hand after a run.

:In such cases it is advisable to check the amount of lubricant m the differential after the first couple of hundred miles, and to keep the lubricant right up to the limit, and when the differential has run itself m to get the lubricant changed, owing to the possibility of it having become contaminated with particles of metal.
