SMART DRESSING FOR BUSINESS GIRLS
QUITE recently we heard one of our best-known kings of commerce com plaining of the unsuitability of the office garb effected by many of his feminine employees. , ....... i It did not appear to occur to him that on the salary they earn many gi rls are not abl© to afford a style of office frock that la distinctly apart from the street dress. ; t This article offers a suggestion for office wear that is smart, cheap and very useful. Also a word or two la said on the subjoct of atookings. Unless her earnings are subsidized by a dress allowance from home, the average business girl finds this "buying of new clothes" a strenuous business, and very often a serious problem. ' • , , . The purchasing of a new frock for the office usually means that new accessories— shoes, stockings, belts, etc.— must follow m its wake, and these all contribute their weight to the very real difficulty of making a little money go a very long way. . . , -, . , - Most of these business lasses know the value of a good appearance, not only for outside the office that they grace from nine till five, but also fop the time they spend inside.it. . In a city that has its share of dust and soot, even the most spick and span office leaves its mark on the frocks of the employees, especially m the steamy days of summer. '
Laundry bills mean money ill -afforded, so that it behoves the business girl to find a garment that will stand wear and tear, keep most of Its freshness, and not show any ill -effects after its owner has washed and ironed it with her own more or less oapable hands. Now, here's a suggestion. Why not adopt for office wear the smart util arian smock? • . : ■ , i Have it m any color that suits your beaux yeux, preferably a cool shade— blue, green, lavender or beige; have It made a la the garment affected by the artist, less billowy, of course, and with either a deep V neck or a smart little Peter Pan collar. r A good tussore silk looks well m a smock, especially If it is brightened with a colored belt or hand-done embroidery.
