TENNIS HOPES

Down South With A Racket

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Dunedin Rep.) Owing to the heavy rain last Saturday the Yankee Tournament that was to be held to celebrate the inauguration of daylight saving had to be postponed. HURING the week Chisholm, N.Z. ** University singles champion, managed to turn the tables on Cleghorn by defeating him m a provincial ladder match, 6—4; 6—l. In the Univer-sity-Kaitura match the previous week, Cleghorn after being I—s and s—B down managed with perfect volleys and good overhead work to win by the odd game. Chisholm's accurate driving was^a feature of last week's match. The most interesting senior match next Saturday will be University v. -Moana. Even should University have the services of Miss Wltherrow, the Moana ladles are almost certain to win a majority of their matches, while the men's events will go slightly m favor of Varsity. Chisholm on his present form should account for G-uy Who does not seem to have struck his game of a couple of seasons ago. McDougall, of Roslyn, is playing a great game at present and before the season is out he will be making Bray and Moody fight for their places as flrst and second on the provincial ladder. Dr. Moody, the Otago singles champion, although having given up his practice m Dunedin and retired, to his sheep run at Lauder, still finds time to make occasional trips to Dunedin for a game of tennis. If the doc. can get back to the form he showed last Easter he should do well at the New Zealand championships. It is good news to hear that Miss Pattlson intends competing at the New Zealand championships this year for the first time, and she should show that her position as seventh on the New Zealand ranking list is none too high.
