Probation Officer Mills stated that Winstanley 'was m a good position, but when he had been written to and warned about not reporting, he Simply ignored the notes. Winstanley's counsel, however, said that accused, who pleaded guilty, / d?d ' A fair artiOUrtt Of travelling and was not always m the city. He received probation for false pretences and had re* trteved himself so thoroughly that he now held a responsible position. He was also offered the managership of the; firm's Auckland branch; but if nublioity were divert to the proceedings he would lose the offer and possibly his job. Under these circumstances he aaked that the S.M. might see his Way clear to Suppress his name. Magistrate Page said he did not look lightly on cases where men. broke the terms of their probation, rtor could he see his way clear to grant counsel's request fdr sup* pression.
