HIGH HOPES

Can Taranaki Hold

Hawke Cup?

(From "N.Z. Truth's" New Plymouth Rep.) Taranaki are very hopeful of retaining the Hawke Cup this year. With the exception of Cole, all of last year's men are available and are apparently m good form. n G. CLARKE was deadly on Saturday at New Plymouth, taking five wickets for 24 and five for 19, including the hat trick, against Borough, whose team included Wad' Wilson. Wilson gave a nice knock of 78 and will be a big help, too. Nasmith, Kingstone, and C. Lash are batting well. Bottrill and Eggleton are doing things with the ball. Harry Suchfall, seven for 8, has to be considered, and also Young. Among South Taranaki reps., Cheevers has knocked up a century and, Lay retired at 60. Hbcken is going strong, whilst Penny and Giblin are careful all-rounders, the latter on Saturday knocking up 54 and knocking down five for 9 and three for 9.

Belts, of Kaponga, who scored a not-out century; Malone, of Hawera, -9 0; and Grace, also of Kaponga, 84, are among those who must be considered. v
