HIS WELCOME
When Welcome Home
Cokes Home (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland 7;Rep.) One would think that the victory of a horse boasting the name of Welcome Home would be welcome m every sense of the term. VET there seems 'some doubt m the * minds of keen enthusiasts as to whether the victory of the son of Baverstock — Royal Beauty brought real joy to the connections of that candidate when he took the Spring Plate at Whangarei. ' . The stable from which Welcome Home hails is noted for supporting its horses when they land the goods, but It is just possible that Welcome Home proved better than anticipated m this particular event. Anyhow, there is no direct indication that Welcome Home carried the usual confidence, though his trainer certainly wore the smile of contentment when thq , chestnut succeeded.. There was nothing wonderful about the performance', for C. G. Mclndoe's gelding only survived by;; a narrow margin over six furlongs, which took 1.17 2/5. Welcome Homo is a three-year-old which should Improve. He started rrom.rJo. 4 last week and thus had some advantage over the more fancied— but moderate — class engaged. ; ■ ■/ • v .. .
