GOSHAWK SWOOPS DOWN

But First Acre Could Only Get Third Money

(By Cable. — From "N.Z. Truth's" Speoial Sydney Representative.) Goshawk and First Acre almost brought off the double for the New Zealand contingent at present m Sydney on Saturday last.

GOSHAWK was good enough and had a very easy win m the division of the Park Stakes (one mile) after leading the whole way with 9.2 aboard. First Acre, however, was not up to the job. He could get only third m the Flying Handicap, though he looked : a sure' winner when he bore down on the leaders half a furlong from home. He weakened over the last bit, (however. Goshawk has now won two races m I Sydney and is; m such great nick that

it is likely he will be a runner at the Christmas nieetings at Randwick. Owner Jack Cameron is convalescing after his illness, but is not yet well enough to make the sea trip to his homeland. This may have had a lot to do with the decision to give Goshawk further opportunities to distinguish himself before being returned to New Zealand. Jazz Baby's form at Canterbury on Saturday was disappointing. , The Tea Tray horse was fairly well backed, but w.as never m the hunt. ' He has been a oostly proposition since he came across. Jack Cameron has not yet despaired of getting another race out of his old champion, The Hawk. V The Martian gelding is engaged m the mile highweight at Randwick on Saturday with top weight, 10.12. It is taking the handicappers a long time to forget the gelding's deeds of yesteryear and. he gets his share of the weight. I. , Just now. he is galloping like a, twof > year- old on the tracks over .shor^.;t3^-.' '■ tances", but he's never likely to reg^m,. the form which made him ' famous a" '',, couple of years back. *". • CONDITION won for - Silver Rule the last day at Rlccartbn. At Christj mas both High Disdain airid ' Goblin Market Will beat him.
