EVEN TIME
Leadbetter Shows Form
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch
Rep.)
Fpr the first time this athletic season "evens" has been clone over the 100 yds. and the performer was Malcom Leadbetter, who is fast beooming the despair of the amateur handioapper. 'ALREADY Leadbetter is giving away ** 10yds.;- and it \will be 11yds. or more for his next start. "When he gets down m a heat the field is so far ahead that it looks as if he is m the next race. ■But it is a different story at the other end of the track. The champion is doing remarkable things over the last 20yds. The field must look like a paling fence to him when he goes past. In his last- start he- won his heat m 10 l-ssecs., and it was evident that the final was going to be a clinker, for the champion had m front of him, J. EL. Murphy, O. F. Steans and A. B. Clark, with a couple of consistent hacks m front of them. Getting away to a perfect start the field was almost m a line five ■ yards from, the tape, but Leadbetter, flashed past them to win by a yard, m 10secs. He had beenlast at 90yds. : The track Avaa m perfect condition, end there was a very slight' breeze against the runners. This is the (track on which the New Zealand Championship century will be decided. So far 'the Canterbury centre has given no encouragement at all m the way of races to women competitors, but next week the ladles are to be given a 100 yds. race;,. y The centre is anxious to form a women's club m Christchurch, and it should be able to turn out a good relay team for the race that the ■Wellington Jadies i-bg-ard as their own. {
