In The Shade Out . Of Luck

(From "N.Z; Truth's" Special Auckland Rep.) , If there was ever what may be termed a promising three-year-old which has raced consistently with- . out just "getting there," that horse is In the Shade. . DUT Owner W. Glenn's luck must turn *■* sooner or later with such a good stamp of thoroughbred. . As a two-year-old, In the Shade gave great promise m all his engagements and actually took three races, besides registering a second and third. , This season he received some of the minor money m both the Wanganui and G.N. Guineas, on which form he was expected to prove victorious , at the Thames fixture. • But luck was against his Parliamentary owner, who tripped all the way to Ellerslie m expectation of seeing his black and purple chequers carried to victory. Such was not to be, though the efforts of his attractive-looking threo-year-old were surely enough to make students of form sit up and take notice. ' He was beaten only a short- neck, by such a horse as Branson over seven furlongs, run m 1.27, when conceding his victor no fewer than 281bs. at weight-for-age. In his next attempt over a mile (run m 1.38 1/5), In the Shade was again second to Gala Day, only a neck aAvay, when conceding the winner 261bs. t at weight-for-age. V : Those performances stamp. Jamieson's charge as much better than a moderate .three-year-old. His winning turn must come. The son of Australian Sun* is one which needs a very vigorous Norseman. At least, that is what his two-year-old displays foretold. ;%-.
