An Authority On Hospitals and Drainage

SOME men have a knack of getting on the box-seat of life and staying there. Such a man is Henry John Otley, of Christchurch, whom Dame Nature endowed with a fair-sized capacity for organization and personal initiative. . These qualities became manifest early- m his life, and the flourishing timber business of which he is the head proves that he is not the type to let the grass grow under his feet. Chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board and holding a similar office on the Drainage Board, H. J. Otley finds m these activities full vent for the surplus energy he possesses. On hospital matters he is an authority' with few equals and has graced the board table for many years. True, he was nearly ousted at the last election, but he managed to .scrape through to retain the chair. When not dealing with hospital affairs, he turns his attention to the less prosaic subject of drainage with equal zeal. His sound business training and driving force have been of great benefit to the local bodies m which he 'is interested. No man can boast of a greater civic pride that H.J.O.
